Major Development for South Marston

The report delivered to Swindon Borough Council by their consultants confirms that substantial development is likely for South Marston.  As part of a national housing expansion Swindon is committed to build 13,500 houses in the Eastern Development Area, which lies to the east if the A419.

Following the representations from the village led by the Parish Council, the good news is that the current proposals do not carpet the area between the railway and the village with building. Instead the scheme accepts the principal that development should be focussed on the village itself. The plan for a neighbouring settlement is new.

Parish Council representatives have been shown the initial draft of the report but were not given a copy.  A summary of the proposals and main issues can be seen by clicking on the document (15 08 south marston and the EDA.pdf) below, or in hard copy by contacting the clerk.

The village has some interesting choices to make.  Once the document is published and the public consultation period starts, which will probably be in October, your Parish Council will be looking to focus discussions.
